Chiropractic is a natural healthcare discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery.  The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. The chiropractor uses gentle and specific spinal adjustments (light pressure application by hand), to correct misalignments or fixations (vertebral subluxation) in the spine in order to remove interference and to restore proper function to the nervous system, helping your body to heal naturally as you are meant to.

The most important system in the body is the your nervous system, which is comprised of your brain and spinal cord and all of the nerves in your body. Your nervous system controls every system in your body, it tells your heart when to beat and your lungs to breathe. Here at R Family Chiropractic, we know that you need an optimally functioning nervous system in order to feel, function, and perform at your best. We have taken measures to bring to you the best science and technology to analyze how your nervous system is performing. Through gentle, specific chiropractic care, we remove interference to your nervous system, with the goal of helping you achieve true healing and health.

What happens when your spine becomes misaligned or fixated into an unfavorable position (Vertebral Subluxation)? Like the animation above, if there are Vertebral Subluxations present, this will cause interference in flow of information through the nerves and spinal cord to and from the brain. If this happens, not only will the brain not be able to communicate to the desired organ properly, but the joints that may be fixated will have decreased ability to send information back to the brain.  "90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine” says Dr. Roger Sperry, Nobel Prize recipient for brain research. Only 10% of our brain’s energy goes into thinking, metabolism, immunity, and healing. Sperry demonstrated that 90% of brain energy goes into processing and maintaining the body’s relationship with gravity. So if your spine is not moving properly, what problems could you have that you aren't even aware of yet, or maybe you are aware of, but do not understand the relationship back to the spine? Poor posture? Headaches

In order for your brain to function properly and get all of the information that it needs daily, it must have full function and motion of each individual spinal joint. Only a Chiropractor is licensed and trained to perform a delicate, specific adjustment to the spine to restore the proper motion and placement of a particular bone and joint. The "Chiropractic Adjustment" is much more complex than a "pop" or "crack". With 24 movable bones in the adult spine (vertebrae), 31 pairs of spinal nerves, and over 14 different bio-mechanical movement patterns a chiropractor must be gentle, safe, and specific with application of treatment. The definition of the Chiropractic Adjustment is: (verb) to alter the position or move a vertebrae (& associated joints) slightly and specifically in order to achieve the desired fit, placement, or movement pattern. Here at R Family Chiropractic we take great pride in our ability to find a technique that works best for you. We understand that the spine has a direct intimate relationship with the function and ease of the nervous system, so we take great measures to make sure that everything we do is safe and comfortable for all.
